[D]ark Awards - A Look Back In Time

With the [d]arc awards taking place tomorrow, Kingfisher Lighting is taking you through some of our past installations working with some of the country’s most highly established lighting and engineering experts. Along with a sneak peek at this year’s theme

Past Work

From themes such as ‘Christmas’, ‘The Spectrum’, ‘Musical’ and ‘Cinematography and Film’, we’ve created some stunning pieces in collaboration with companies such as Studio 29, Hoare Lea and WSP. Take a dive into our creations form the past few years.

2019 – O CHRISTMAS TREE

Starting in 2019, Kingfisher Lighting sponsored the event and crafted a very special Christmas installation. The team created an inverted Christmas Tree which was hung from the Kingfisher Bar. (Some say one of the most important spaces at the event!). The tree was fabricated from steel beams and adorned with decorations. The lighting effected were created using out TITO 55 mini floods, which produced a wash affect.

2020 – Pandemic Hits

It’s no surprise that 2020 came with its limitations and therefore, Darc Livestream became their first online event. Kingfisher joined the team in presenting online content, but unfortunately there were no installations on this occasion.

2021 – TWIST AND SHOUT

The first in person event since the pandemic, Darc Room 2021 was based in at Design, London and saw many industry professionals come together to witness the best in lighting. The theme was ‘Spectrum’ and the team at Kingfisher HQ wanted to create something truly inspiring.

Collaborating with the talented designers at Studio 29, the team created something based on childhood play. Inspired by twisting the swings chain and releasing, we utilised a hoop of colour blending light with a programmed DMX sequence. When in motion, the hoop would produce a stroboscopic effect and show off the full spectrum of the CINEP luminaire.

The swing was such a success we were invited to take it on tour to other industry events over the following months.

2022 – GROOVE IS IN THE HEART

A collaboration with Hoare Lea, 2022’s installation was inspired by the theme ‘Musical’. After the success of the swing, we wanted to create an equally impressive installation to suit the song ‘Groove is in the Heart’.

We produced a visually engaging art installation utilising our RGBW MOTO. Programmed to a DMX Controller, the mini flood illuminated a heart crafted from wood and steel discs to create an intriguing effect to the soundtrack of ‘Groove is in the Heart’.

2023 – BATMAN

Last year, we collaborated with WSP to create a Cinematography inspired masterpiece. This piece was themed around Batman and his quest to keep Gotham City Safe! Using laser-cut city scape sections and lit with RGB KRION-INs, we created a layered look that gave the installation depth. This alongside a whole host of props and effects, we were able to create a stunning scene that took viewers on a journey.

PRESENT

For 2024, we have come together with the team at ARUP to create a theme reminiscent of the 1980’s. We can’t give too much away as we don’t want to ruin the surprise, but (we, say this every year!) it’s going to be our best installation yet!
