In September 2024, Kingfisher’s Laura Coakley will be ascending Mt. Kilimanjaro the world’s largest free-standing mountain in a bid to raise money for the Electrical Industries Charity. This 11-day challenge will see many from the sector come together to help this worthwhile cause.
Electrical Industries Charity (EIC): Who are They and What Do They Do?
The charity focuses on providing help and support for any persons working (or has previously worked) within the electrical industry, as well astheir families. Regardless of age or circumstances, the charity can give practical support for family or relationship problems, financial or legal worries, emotional or mental health problems and of course ill health or disability.
They understand that sometimes the pressure can become too much, and the consequences of overwhelming pressure can impact so many people and their families; therefore, they are working hard to help as many people in need as possible.
Challenge for a Cause
The climb to Mount Kilimanjaro pushes mental and physical boundaries for participants and Laura has been preparing herself over the last few months to make sure she’s up to the challenge.
Although it may already seem tough climbing 5895m, there are other elements such as travelling through 5 unique climate zones, walking for extensive periods of time and of course being able to cope with the high altitudes.
This trip is certainly going to be an unforgettable experience but before it begins, we need to raise a minimum of £5,000. We have many events planned and even hosted an internal darts competition to help raise funds. Laura has just over £4,000 left to raise so watch this space for the latest updates.
