Immingham Docks

Lincolnshire

The port of Immingham, owned and operated by Associated British Ports (ABP), is the UK's largest port by tonnage, handling up to 55 million tonnes per annum. Able to accommodate most cargo types including containers, RoRo, steel & metals, forest & timber products as well as dry & liquid bulk products.

Kingfisher Lighting was asked to supply and install a new energy efficient, LED high mast lighting system to enable the site to reduce overheads, meet environmental standards and open up further revenue streams.

The work centred on the development of the Global TTS timber storage area and Kingfisher's in-house high mast lighting team undertook an initial site survey to determine the most efficient options for ABP and a condition inspection of the existing masts.

Following on from this visit Kingfisher drafted a lighting design scheme and planned to install eight new 30m high columns with fittings and retrofit three existing columns. Using a lowering head frame the Kingfisher team were able to complete the installation of the site in just under two weeks.

Knowing the client wanted to use LED for the site, the Galileo floodlight was chosen for its high performance output of up to 47,360 luminaire lumens. Galileo is ideal for a range of high-performance applications such as high mast, sports field, car parks, area and security lighting providing efficient, effective white light.

The site prior to Kingfisher's involvement was consuming 32.9kW, but now with the upgrade to LED lighting using Galileo the site is consuming 13.3kW and only 3.4kW when fully dimmed. This equates to an annual cost saving of £4,750 and 23.64 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
