Inspiring a community, Oakengates Leisure Centre encourages people of all ages to adopt physical activity as a way of improving their health and wellbeing. Promoting a healthy lifestyle to all members, this facility offers opportunities to participate in swimming, ball sports, dance and athletics as well as enjoy some rest and relaxation time in their saunas and steam rooms.
With the dark and cold seasons upon us, the centre focused on upgrading their lighting scheme within their exterior spaces which included the athletics track. Previously, the track and field space were illuminated with 2kW metal halide fixtures which required high maintenance and running costs.
The Project
The Kingfisher Sport Team were tasked with creating a full scheme including both masts and floods that stands the test of time. After an initial site assessment, we discovered we would need to utilise base hinged columns for ease of maintenance when required.
The Solution
During the design process, the team utilised the AMNIS Match luminaires in order to create a high-performance scheme meeting both the standards of England Athletics and BS EN 12103. The overall outcome concluded 200 lux levels with a uniformity level of 0.7 perfectly aligned with the Class II level of play.
The AMNIS was the perfect solution for this system due to its high performance functionality and reflector based system, ensuring a powerful distribution whilst maintaining comfort for athletes and spectators alike. Designed and Engineered in the UK, this luminaire was manufactured with heatsink technology optimising the thermal management and extending the lifetime of the fitting.
We also installed and commissioned the 15 metre base hinged columns after removing the pre-existing masts. The Kingfisher High Mast Engineers were able to replace the masts with ease thanks to their many years’ experience working on sport and high mast sites.
Now Oakengates have a fully renovated site with improved energy savings and newly installed high mast columns that will stand the test of time.
